Councilwoman Katrina Foley has announced a “creative media” contest in which students are invited to answer: “What motivates young voters, and why don’t they vote?”
Winners will receive a framed certificate recognizing his or her achievements, along with a $500 tuition scholarship. Councilwoman Katrina Foley encouraged students to “get creative” and stressed that any kind of creative communication will be accepted.
“This will be an annual scholarship with a different citizenship theme each year,” she said. “Given that the first annual happens to coincide with the Presidential Election — and voting is one of the ultimate forms of good citizenship — we focused the theme on the election.”
Submissions may be sent to “Twelfth Grade Citizenship Award,” Costa Mesa City Council Member Katrina Foley, City Hall, PO Box 1200, Costa Mesa, CA 92628-1200; each must be postmarked by Dec. 15.
