SAN DIEGO — The Lions’ season ended in the quarterfinals of the Golden State Athletic Conference Tournament Thursday at the Sea Lions’ gym.
Sophomore Dennis Heenan led four Lions in double figures with 22 points, as Vanguard (20-7), the No. 5 seed, led, 42-40, at halftime.
The No. 4-seeded Sea Lions (23-8), ranked No. 25 in NAIA Division I, outscored the visitors, 17-10, in the extra session.

COSTA MESA — Sophomore Patrick Lam swept his No. 3 singles set and teamed up for a victory with freshman Kevin Tran in No. 1 doubles play as the Pirates on Tuesday beat perennial state power College of the Desert for the time in Orange Empire Conference action.
OCC (7-3, 4-1 in conference) rebounded nicely after watching the defending state champion Roadrunners take the top two singles sets. Lam, sophomore Kevin Kordestani, Tran and sophomore Andy Ong swept their respective Nos. 3, 4, 5 and 6 singles sets for the Pirates.
OCC plays host to Saddleback Tuesday at 2 p.m.

RIVERSIDE — Chris Fung, Cory Olson and Austin Elliott each went two for three to help the Pirates snap a four-game losing streak and gain their first Orange Empire Conference win Thursday.
Fung, Wes Kartch, Ryan Dunn and Ryan Sheeks contributed an RBI each for OCC (14-6-1, 1-1 in conference), which ended Riverside’s eight-game win streak.
The Tigers, the defending state champions, fell to 17-5, 1-1.

SANTA ANA — The Pirates dominated the Orange Empire Conference road match Thursday to improve to 8-0, 4-0 in conference.
Freshmen Brittnie Furuvald and Kalin Eshelman, as well as sophomore Evelyn Wallace, a Costa Mesa High product, all won in singles and doubles matches that were contested.
