Mr. Carl E. Wicks, of Westminster, CA, died March 4th, 2008 at his home from heart failure.
Carl was born on March 11, 1921 in South Bend, WA, the son of the late Charles and Mary Wicks. Carl served in World War II as a tailgunner on a B-17 Bomber. He was stationed at Rattlesden Air Base in England. He was in the 8th Air Force, 447th Bomb Group. He flew over 30 missions including those over Berlin and the Ruhr Valley. He received many awards including the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Bronze Star.
Following the war, Carl returned to the States where he met Norma Pauline. They married in 1964 and recently celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary. During these years Carl worked as a caterer and was an accomplished contractor who was known for his quality work and respected for his honesty. Among friends and family, Carl was appreciated for his sense of humor and hospitality, especially his prowess in the kitchen.
In recent years, Carl faithfully attended church and was active in his Christian faith.
Carl is survived by his wife, Norma Wicks, and his two sons, Michael Woo and Shawn Wicks, of Westminster.
Memorial service to be held at Carl’s home church, Westminster Bible Chapel, March 14, 2008 at 10am. Committal Service, with full military honors, to be held at Riverside National Cemetery at 1:30pm.
