Kaluz, Eberhard, Caldwell earn honor in basketball

Corona del Mar High 6-foot-9 senior center Stefan Kaluz, bound for Brown University, made the first-team All-Southern California Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association in Division III-A.
CdM 6-6 senior small forward Joe Eberhard was named to the second team.
Newport Harbor 6-9 senior center Kyle Caldwell, headed to play volleyball at UCLA, was a second-team Division I-A selection.
Kaluz, the Pacific Coast League MVP, led the Sea Kings (21-8, 8-0 in league) to their second straight league championship. He averaged 17.7 points, 11 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game, and made 54% of his shots.
Eberhard was second on the team in points (15.3) and rebounds (6.6) per game. He led the team with 32 three-pointers made.
Caldwell, the Sunset League Co-MVP, led the Sailors (17-10, 7-3 in league) by averaging 21.9 points, 13.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. Caldwell, who garnered interest from Division I programs like Washington State and UC Santa Barbara, scored a school-record 47 points in one game.
Caldwell, a setter, considered one of the top prep volleyball players in the country, said he might try to walk on the UCLA men’s basketball team.
