UCI’s Lahti earns Big West Conference weekly honor

UC Irvine sophomore Matt Lahti has been named the Big West Conference Field Athlete of the Week after his strong performance at the Oxy Invitational last week.
Lahti recorded a mark of 192 feet, 3 inches in the hammer throw to qualify for the NCAA West Regional May 30-31 in Northridge.
That mark ranks No. 4 in UCI history and was a personal best by 10 feet for Lahti. His effort is the third-best throw in the Big West this season.
The UCI track and field teams compete in the Big West Conference Championships today and Saturday in Northridge.
