Breakers fall on road

NEW YORK — The Newport Beach Breakers fell on the road to the New York Sportimes, 22-14, on Friday.
The Breakers’ Ramon Delgado and Kaes Van’t Hof defeated Brian Wilson and Jesse Witten, 5-4, in men’s doubles to open the match. But Michaela Pastikova and recent UC Irvine graduate Becky Bernhard then were blanked in women’s doubles, 5-0, by Milagros Sequera and Hana Sromova.
Delgado topped Witten, 5-3, in men’s singles to pull Newport Beach within 12-10. But the Breakers then lost their final two sets. Van’t Hof and Pastikova fell to Sequera and Wilson in mixed doubles, 5-3, and Sequera topped Pastikova, 5-1, in women’s singles.
The Breakers (4-6) are at Boston tonight before the teams play again Monday night at 7 at Breakers Stadium. Tennis legend Martina Navratilova will play for the Lobsters.
