Local Mervyn’s shutting its doors after bankruptcy

Department store chain Mervyn’s has gotten approval from bankruptcy court to close 26 stores, which include the Huntington Beach location, company spokesmen said.

The store, which has been open at 7651 Edinger Ave. since 1986, is one of four in Orange County being shuttered to cut costs for the financially ailing company. Mervyn’s filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in July.

Liquidation sales began Aug. 28 at the stores, and they will continue until they close in late October or early November, according to a company spokesman.
