Author to speak about his book set in Newport

Former OC Metro editor Steven M. Thomas will speak about his new novel, “Criminal Paradise,” at a free lecture and book signing Oct. 15 at the Newport Beach Central Library.

The crime novel takes place in Newport Beach — and is filled with scenes set on Balboa Island, Balboa Peninsula, Corona del Mar and other local spots.

Thomas is the award-winning author of many short stories, essays and poems that have been published in more than 50 literary and small-press magazines in the United States and England. “Criminal Paradise” is his first novel.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. at the library, 1000 Avocado Ave. A lecture, and question-and-answer session with the author will begin at 7 p.m., followed by a book signing at 8 p.m. There is no charge to attend the event, but a $10 suggested donation will be collected at the door.
