“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”

In recent weeks, someone deliberately and horrifically injured 11 brown pelicans on Bolsa Chica State Beach.

Ten pelicans had their wings snapped back and died as a result. One had its wings bent backward and is thankfully being released back into its habitat.

Some may say that while this is not good, the attacker only injured birds.

However, it doesn’t take long to make the connection that someone who abuses animals has the potential to harm people as well.

The ramifications of not catching this deranged person could be more senseless injuries to animals, and at worst, to humans.

Those with information on the incidents are asked to call Special Agent Ed Newcomer of the U.S. Department of Fish and Wildlife at (310) 328-1516.

There is a $20,000 reward for anyone with information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible.

If you know something, anything, your information might save the lives of future potential victims. That in itself should be motivation enough to come forward.
