The Huntington Beach girls’ tennis team took two tiebreakers in the final round and used each to clinch a 10-8 Seaview League victory over visiting Foothill at SeaCliff Country Club on Tuesday.

Oilers singles player Melissa Markowitz swept all three sets to remain undefeated in league play at 6-0.

The win was the first in league play for Huntington, which improved to 1-1 and 2-4 overall.

Two late scores by Victor Valley allowed the host Rams to pull out a 34-31 overtime victory over Golden West College in an American Mountain Conference game Saturday in Victorville.

Golden West had taken a 31-24 lead with 2:29 left in the fourth quarter on a one-yard run by Mel Carmichael. Victory Valley made the most of its final possession and forced overtime when O’Ryan Bradley hit Kenyatta Smith on a seven-yard touchdown pass with 12 seconds remaining.

In overtime, Kelsey Davis kicked a 22-yard field goal to win the game for the Rams.

The outcome left both teams with overall records of 2-3 and 1-1 in conference play.

The teams combined for 957 yards of offense.

Golden West quarterback Michael VanDeripe completed 22 of 31 passes for 239 yards and threw two touchdown passes to Brandon Grissom and one to Johnny Olivé.

The Rustlers host San Diego Mesa in conference action at 6 p.m. Saturday at Orange Coast College.

Men’s Soccer

Golden West and host Santiago Canyon played to a scoreless tie Friday. Rustlers goalie Brent Reis registered seven saves. Golden West is now 3-4-3. Santiago Canyon is 2-4-4.

Women’s Soccer

Santiago Canyon, one of the top-ranked community college teams in the state, posted a convincing 7-0 home win over Golden West.

The setback dropped the Rustlers to 4-4-2 overall.
