Locals set to run in OC Championships today

Each of the five high schools in the Newport-Mesa area will compete at the 42nd annual Orange County Cross Country Championships today at Irvine Regional Park in Orange.

The Corona del Mar and Newport Harbor girls’ teams are in the sweepstakes race at 9:27 a.m.

The Sea Kings are ranked No. 3 in the CIF Southern Section Division III coaches’ poll and the Sailors No. 8 in Division II.

Costa Mesa, Estancia and Sage Hill School, ranked No. 3 in Division V, are in the girls’ Division III race that starts at 10:18 a.m.

In the boys’ events, Newport Harbor, No. 7 in Division II, is in the sweepstakes race at 10:06 a.m.

Costa Mesa, Corona del Mar and Sage Hill, No. 5 in Division V, are competing in the Division III event at 9:15 a.m.

Estancia is in the Division II race at 9:39 a.m.

Foothill High is the host of the event.
