Man pleads not guilty to using car as a weapon

A Pasadena man pleaded not guilty Monday to accusations that he tried to run down six people with his car in Newport Beach on Labor Day after women in the group rejected his advances.

Bryan Curiel, 23, is charged with six counts of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon among others related to an Aug. 31 night when prosecutors said he sped upwards of 50 mph in the Newport Beach Pier parking lot — trying to hit six people.

Curiel remains in custody in lieu of $1-million bail and is scheduled for a pretrial hearing Dec. 12.
