May-Treanor recognized with top FIVB accolades

Newport Harbor High product Misty May-Treanor has been named 2008 Co-Most Outstanding Player by the Federation Internationale de Volleyball.
May-Treanor, who teamed with Kerri Walsh to win the tandem’s second straight beach volleyball gold medal at the Beijing Olympics last summer, was also named Best Defensive Player, Best Offensive Player and shared the sportsmanship award with Walsh.
May-Treanor shared Most Outstanding Player honors with China’s Xi Zhang.
May-Treanor was second in voting for the Most Inspirational Player and tied for second in the Best Hitter category.
May-Treanor and Walsh won four FIVB tournaments in 2008 and May-Treanor was named outstanding player of the event at tour stops in Berlin, Paris and Stavanger, Norway.
May-Treanor and Walsh have won their last 69 international matches, including 10 straight tournament titles. The duo has 35 career FIVB tournament wins and has $1,540,540 in career FIVB earnings.
April Ross, another former Newport Harbor standout, received votes for the Rookie of the Year award.
