AT THE PLATE: The Dodgers couldn’t do much against Giants starter Madison Bumgarner, who limited them to four hits and a walk over eight innings. Bumgarner struck out eight. The only run he gave up came on a sixth-inning solo home run by Yasiel Puig.
ON THE MOUND: Paul Maholm was charged with three hits over 5 2/3 innings. Unfortunately for him, one of those hits was a two-run home run by Brandon Crawford in the fifth inning that broke a scoreless tie. A leadoff walk in the sixth inning led to the Giants increasing their lead to 3-0. On a positive note, Brandon League continued to pitch well, tossing 2 1/3 scoreless innings.
MEDICAL REPORT: Hyun-Jin Ryu played catch, marking his first time throwing a baseball since he landed on the disabled list on April 28. Meanwhile, A.J. Ellis caught seven innings at the Dodgers’ spring-training complex in Arizona. Ellis could start a minor league rehabilitation assignment in the coming days.
UP NEXT: Zack Greinke (5-1, 2.35) will face the Giants and Matt Cain (0-3, 4.35) at Dodger Stadium at 1 p.m. On the air: TV: SportsNet LA; Radio: 570, 1020.
