Baseball: It’s a big week for L.A. Marshall (9-1-1)

With road games against El Camino Real on Thursday and San Fernando on Saturday, L.A. Marshall (9-1-1) has a chance to assure itself a high seeding for the City Section Division I playoffs in May.
The Barristers already own a win over defending City champion Birmingham, tied Sylmar and played a close game before losing to Kennedy, 2-1. Having success against San Fernando Valley schools helps reveal whether a team can be successful in the playoffs.
Senior left-hander Johnny Vergara is 3-1 with a 1.26 ERA. He has taken over for graduated All-City pitcher Angel Lerma. The big surprise has been freshman Joseph Padilla, who’s hitting .459 with 17 hits and nine RBI.
