The always competitive Mission League, one of the best in Southern Section Division 1 baseball, kicks off tonight with St. Francis (5-3) playing Chaminade (3-3) at 7 p.m. at Brookside Park.
St. Francis is coming off a Saturday in which it played a tripleheader _ winning two of the three games.
Jonathan Tyler has pitched well for the Golden Knights. He has 16 strikeouts in nine innings. Jason Ajamian is 10 for 20 with with 10 RBI for first-year Coach Terry Phillips.
Chaminade has gotten off to a surprisingly slow start, struggling with fielding issues while trying to develop its pitching staff. Blake Rutherford, the standout junior outfielder, had an inside-the-park grand slam last week.
Crespi plays Alemany on Tuesday and Harvard-Westlake takes on Sherman Oaks Notre Dame.
