Football: Casey Clausen has Calabasas fans excited

Calabasas has always had a good cheering section. The problem has been very few victories in football, leaving The Pack practicing for basketball season.

But first-year Coach Casey Clausen, a former Oaks Christian assistant known for developing quarterbacks, has Coyote fans excited.

His sophomore quarterback, Tristan Gebbia, passed for 289 yards and five touchdowns in the Coyotes’ 53-19 win over Las Vegas Rancho. Clausen compares him to Westlake quarterback Malik Henry, who he used to work with at Oaks Christian.

Calabasas has lots of sophomoresl and juniors Clausen intends to rely on as he tries to turn around the Calabasas program.

“Each week our goal is to get better,” he said.

If there’s one thing Clausen knows, it’s quarterbacks. He was a starter at Tennessee. His younger brothers, Rick and Jimmy, were quarterbacks at Tennessee and Notre Dame. He figures to build the program around Gebbia, but others will have to step up, too.

At least Clausen knows he has the fans behind the team.

“The Pack is awesome,” he said.

Next up is a Friday road game against Burbank Burroughs.
