Football: It’s City Section vs. Southern Section in opening matchups

City Section teams will be the underdog in lots of opening football matchups against Southern Section teams this weekend. It will be interesting to see if any upsets can happen.
Among the most notable matchups are on Friday night, Garfield is at San Clemente, Sylmar is at Crespi, Birmingham is at Newbury Park. On Saturday, Crenshaw plays Long Beach Poly at Mission Viejo.
On Thursday, Venice hosts Chaminade, Narbonne hosts Palos Verdes and San Fernando hosts Sierra Canyon.
The games can provide clues as to which City Section teams will be strong if they can be competitive or even defeat their Southern Section opponent.
