Football: It’s going to be the year of the quarterback

After spending weeks putting together lists of the top football players in Southern California from recommendations of coaches and talent experts, it’s pretty clear 2014 will be the year of the quarterback.
Quarterback is the strongest position by far. I’ve been able to single out 10 quarterbacks, and eight are seniors already committed to NCAA Division I schools. Two are juniors with scholarship offers.
And there’s many more quarterbacks who should be passing the ball with great statistics.
Beginning on Aug. 20, The Times will start a nine-part series previewing the area’s top players by position.
