Update: The Galaxy may have lost the last two times it took the field, but because neither of those games counted toward Major League Soccer competition, a 12-match MLS unbeaten streak is on the line against the Crew. The losses to the Seattle Sounders in the U.S. Open Cup and Real Madrid in an exhibition game came with limited Galaxy rosters on the field. It is safe to expect a full lineup against the Crew, including forward Landon Donovan, even though he injured his ankle against the Sounders on July 13. A Columbus victory would move the Crew into a first-place tie in the Eastern Conference with the Philadelphia Union.
