Aaron Hernandez jerseys are going for big bucks on eBay

Aaron Hernandez is no longer an NFL football player. He is in a jail cell waiting to be tried for the first-degree murder of Odin Lloyd.
The NFL is no longer selling his jersey. And the New England Patriots are offering to exchange his jersey for that of any other another player on the team.
Yet people are still willing to pay big bucks for his No. 81 Patriots jersey. The Boston Globe reported that Patriots fan John Lamothe sold his Hernandez jersey Sunday on eBay for a whopping $289.
And a quick glance at the online auction site reveals several others for sale, many of which might fetch the same amount of cash or more. Two separate listings for Hernandez jerseys have topped the $200 mark with more than 30 bids each. And there are six others going for well over $100 (the original selling price) with as many as 46 bids apiece.
Several youth jerseys are listed as well, but no one has felt the need to bid on one of those yet.
Lamothe told the Globe that the person who bought his jersey told him that he had paid too much and that he did not want his wife to know what he had done. But that person did not reveal why he purchased the item.
Lynn L’Heureux, who has seen bids for her Hernandez jersey reach $127, has a theory as to why people would pay so much for something linked to an alleged murderer.
“They might think it will go up in value later on, and maybe it will, but I’m not interested,” she told the Globe. “I just don’t want it in my possession. I want to use the money to buy a jersey that reflects my pride in the Patriots.”
