Italian police raided the hotel where Asafa Powell and Sherone Simpson were staying after news broke that the Jamaican sprinters had tested positive for banned substances.
The rooms of the athletes and their Canadian physical trainer, Christopher Xuereb, were searched and drugs were confiscated, authorities told Sky Sports.
The raid took place Monday morning at a hotel in northeast Italy. No arrests were made and it was not known if the confiscated drugs were illegal or banned.
A total of five Jamaican athletes reportedly failed drug tests at their recent national championship. Powell and Simpson tested positive for a banned stimulant.
American sprinter Tyson Gay has also acknowledged that banned substances were found in his system during out-of-competition testing. Saying that it was shocked by the allegation, Adidas suspended its endorsement relationship with Gay.
These developments come just weeks before the track-and-field elite gather for the world championships in Moscow.
