Cubs outfielder Albert Almora Jr. really wasn’t flipping off Trump in that White House photo

Chicago Cubs outfielder Albert Almora Jr. seemed delighted his team got to visit the White House on Wednesday for the second time since winning the World Series in November.

“Hey, man, it’s not every day you get to meet the president of the United States,” Almora said. “To meet two in one calendar year, for me, is a special feeling.”

So it would make little sense for Almora to give President Trump the middle finger during a photo op in the Oval Office.

But that sure is what it looks like the player is doing in this picture that made the rounds on social media on Wednesday.

But take a closer look. As Almora would later point out to reporters, “ there’s definitely two fingers out there.”

So Almora really wasn’t trying to make any kind of political statement. It was just an optical illusion.

“Obviously, it’s unfortunate,” Almora said with a laugh. “I’m getting ready to take a picture and I’m posing there. But you guys know that I would never do that to the president of the United States.

“I respect everybody. It is what it is. We laugh about it now, but there’s definitely two fingers out there.”
