Florida and Idaho reschedule football game for 2017

This just in: A college football game that was going to be no contest anyway was officially declared “no contest” on Wednesday by both schools.

Saturday’s game between Idaho and Florida in Gainesville was suspended after one play because of heavy rain and lightning.

Both schools had an open date on Oct. 25 but they have decided instead to replay the game in 2017.

Florida will pay Idaho the full terms of the contract, $975,000, by Feb. 1.

This was basically a “paycheck” game for Idaho, a struggling former independent playing its first season in the Sun Belt Conference. Florida is from the powerful Southeastern, though the Gators are coming off a 4-8 season.

Last year, Idaho lost road games at Power Five league schools Washington State, Mississippi State and Florida State by the combined score of 176-28.

Interestingly, Idaho’s only win last year was over Temple, which on Saturday stunned Vanderbilt in Nashville.
