USC in the NFL: Matt Cassel finally starts in a college stadium
- Share via
The NFL season opened with 37 former USC players on NFL rosters, one behind leader Louisiana State.
At the start of Week 2, the Philadelphia Eagles signed offensive lineman Kevin Graf from their practicing squad, which tied the Trojans with LSU.
Two former LSU players have since been signed and activated on rosters.
The Eagles play the Indianapolis Colts on Monday night at Indianapolis.
Graf, who started at right tackle for USC, went to camp with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent.
Center Marcus Martin, a third-round pick by the San Francisco 49ers, was the only Trojans offensive lineman selected in the 2014 NFL draft.
Martin is recovering from a preseason knee injury.
Redd scores first touchdown
Former USC tailback Silas Redd scored his first NFL touchdown on Sunday in the Washington Redskins’ 41-10 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars at FedEx Field in Landover, Md.
Redd, a rookie who went to camp with Washington as an undrafted free agent, rushed for 41 yards in eight carries.
Former Trojan Marqise Lee of the Jaguars caught two passes for 11 yards.
Old college try
Trivia question: Which NFL quarterback never started a college game in a college stadium?
USC’s Matt Cassel.
On Sunday, Cassel started for the Minnesota Vikings at TCF Bank Stadium -- home of the University of Minnesota -- in a 30-7 loss to the New England Patriots.
The Vikings are playing home games at TCF Bank Stadium while their new stadium is built.
Cassel completed 19 of 36 passes for 202 yards and a touchdown with four interceptions.
