USC quarterback Cody Kessler returned to practice Wednesday, a day after sitting out while recovering from a toe procedure to treat an infection.
Coach Steve Sarkisian said Kessler would be “ready to go” for Saturday’s Pac-12 opener.
But Kessler, who wore a synthetic sleeve beneath his left knee brace, was eased back into the workout.
Backup Max Browne shared first-team reps with Kessler, who passed for a career-best 394 yards and four touchdowns last week against Fresno State.
Defensive tackle Leonard Williams did not practice because of an ankle sprain suffered Tuesday.
Offensive lineman Damien Mama, who suffered an unspecified knee injury Tuesday, was limited. Sarkisian said the freshman would be a game-time decision.
Freshman Viane Talamaivao worked in Mama’s spot at right guard.
