USC tailback Tre Madden had knee surgery last week and will not play in the Holiday Bowl against Wisconsin, Coach Clay Helton said Saturday.
Madden, a fifth-year senior, was slowed by knee soreness throughout the second half of the season.
Madden rushed for 452 yards and five touchdowns in 85 carries. He also caught 17 passes, one for a touchdown.
Madden’s key third-down catch kept a drive alive in the Trojans’ victory at California and he also was utilized in short-yardage situations in the final games.
Junior Justin Davis and freshmen Ronald Jones II, Dominic Davis and Aca’Cedric Ware are tailbacks available for the game against Wisconsin on Dec. 30 in San Diego.
