Florida: Disney World’s Grand Floridian spa gets a makeover

Walt Disney World recently revamped the spa at the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa at Lake Buena Vista, Fla., and plans to do the same at a second Florida property next year.
It’s all part of a “reimagined” spa concept, in Disney speak, called Senses. Starting Jan. 16, Walt Disney World will take over operation of all spas, salons and fitness centers at its properties, a company statement says.
The pampering at Senses is aimed at parents, not children, though guests will hear what’s called “Disney orchestral music” playing while having a treatment. And really, who wouldn’t want a Citrus and Mint Hydrating Treatment after a long day at the theme park?
The spa at the Victorian-style Grand Floridian reopened Dec. 17 with 15 treatment rooms, three new themes — relax, renew or imagine — and a new menu of massages, facials and skin-care services, sugar exfoliation body treatments, and manicures and pedicures. (Only the last two are offered for kids: $30 for a manicure, $45 for a pedicure.)
There are also spa packages, including something called the Grand Floridian ($200 for 80 minutes) that features an aromatherapy massage. In mid-January, Disney plans to close the spa at its Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa for a Senses redo that’s set to open in summer.
