California: Integratron welcomes you as you welcome the new year

Whether you’re making resolutions or still recovering from New Year’s Eve, rejuvenation is the key as you start 2013. For the 200 or so people at the Integratron, it’s going to be a mesmerizing “sound bath” of music from crystal bowls at this 38-foot-high geomagnetic dome that’s way out there — near Joshua Tree, we mean.
Building began in 1954 after George Van Tassell, a former engineer, UFO enthusiast and meditation practitioner, had an encounter, it’s said, with aliens from Venus — aliens who revealed to him the secret of using frequencies to energize and regenerate cell structure.
“Build it and they will come” was the idea, and enthusiasts, scientists and musicians have been visiting the wooden sound chamber ever since.
This year’s “Happily Ever After” event, which runs 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on New Year’s Day, will involve hour-long group sound baths inside the dome.
Outside you can check out the eclectic interactive art, hang in a hammock, listen to the DJ, step into the dunes opposite and enjoy the peace, or go up the road to where it all began – under the sacred, seven-story-high boulder called the Giant Rock – and take a “rock ride” for $10.
