Tax simplification for California film makers is on the way. After a year of discussions between state and industry officials, Gov. George Deukmejian last week asked Board of Equalization vice chairman Ernest Dronenburg to do something about confusing, inequitable state sales tax regulations that film makers complain are unfair, hard to comply with and largely irrelevant. Dronenburg has asked the other four members of the board to cooperate in a “long-overdue effort to end the compliance problems which have plagued (the motion picture) industry which is a critical part of our state’s economy and culture.”
The 1987 Pulitzer Prizes in journalism and the arts will be announced at noon today at Columbia University in New York
