Arcadia Unified School District voters reelected three school board members Tuesday, rejecting the lone challenger for the board’s three open seats.
In an election in which only 7.3% of the 28,884 eligible voters cast ballots, incumbents James A. Bryant, an engineer at Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, received 28.4% of the vote, or 1,585 votes; G. Michael Allison, manager of Arcadia’s May Co. store, received 27.2%, or 1,517 votes, and board President Robert Kladifko took 26.8%, or 1,493 votes.
The challenger, Alhambra Police Lt. Gene F. Shepherd, received 17.7%, or 985 votes.
“I am thankful for the vote of confidence the community has voiced and I look forward to the next four years,” Kladifko said, echoing comments from the other two winners.
Shepherd said the poor voter turnout probably hurt his chances, but he said he felt “very honored that almost 1,000 people believed in me.”
