Pico Rivera : Gardner Wins Mayor Post

Councilman Garth G. Gardner was elected mayor of Pico Rivera on Monday, while Councilman James M. Patronite was selected mayor pro tem. Gardner, a 64-year-old real estate appraiser, succeeds Councilman Gilbert de la Rosa, who served as mayor for the past year.
The mayor presides over City Council meetings and is the ceremonial head of city government. The one-year position is decided annually by a vote of City Council members.
Gardner was first elected to the City Council in 1972, while de la Rosa joined the council in 1982. Patronite joined the City Council in 1974.
