The father of cycling champion Greg LeMond said that his son, wounded in a hunting accident this week, will not defend his title in the 24-day Tour de France this June.
“The Tour de France is out of the question,” Bob LeMond of Reno said. “He just won’t be able to recover in time. He would have to be well and healthy today to be able to compete in the Tour.”
The elder LeMond joined doctors for a news conference at the University of California Medical Center in Sacramento. The younger LeMond could be released from the hospital in about six days but won’t be able to resume training for several weeks.
