Connie Clark and Janis Okerlund both threw shutouts Thursday night to lead the Cal State Fullerton softball team to 1-0 and 2-0 victories over UC Santa Barbara in a Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. doubleheader at Titan Field.
Clark threw a 10-inning six-hitter and struck out 10 in the first-game victory. Okerlund threw a four-hitter and struck out three in the nightcap for the top-ranked Titans (29-3, 53-6).
In the first game, Fullerton scored the winning run in the bottom of the 10th when Chenita Rogers singled, stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball and came home on Charis Monroe’s sacrifice fly.
In the nightcap, the Titans scored two runs in the second inning on Michelle Gromacki’s RBI double and Valerie Van Kirk’s RBI single.
