A mistrial was declared after a Santa Clara County jury failed to agree whether David Allen Raley, who was convicted of killing a teen-ager while giving a tour of a deserted mansion, should receive the death penalty. The jury, which had deliberated for about a week, deadlocked 7 to 5 in favor of capital punishment.
