U.S. Marines

For the first time in recent memory I read a Los Angeles Times editorial with which I can wholeheartedly agree!

Your editorial (May 4), “Thinking About the Marines,” was a most welcome commentary on the Marine Corps in light of the recent events at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow. It should serve as a reminder to the American people that Marines are always “First in the Fight” and have always gone beyond the call of duty when summoned to serve their country in time of need.

As a World War II member of the Marine Corps, I commend your newspaper for publishing a fine and timely editorial about a most unique fighting organization.
