CHULA VISTA — When Castle Park High School lost its first three Metro Conference games this season, Coach Bob Korzep said his team had its back against the wall.
Apparently, that’s exactly where it wanted to be.
Castle Park defeated Coronado, 13-0, Thursday for its 10th straight victory and the Metro-South Bay title. Castle Park, ranked No. 7 in San Diego County, finished 10-3 in league and 21-6 overall. Coronado finished 9-4, 16-8.
“Our team needed to have some pressure against it,” Korzep said. “They needed something to make them fired up for each game. To know they had to win is what helped us come back.”
Henry Monreal pitched a four-hitter and Steve Alvarez had four hits for the Trojans, who had 21 hits. Jose Palos added three hits, including a home run. Castle Park led, 9-0, after three innings.
