Scholarship Excuse Is Limit for Bruin Fan
- Share via
To the dismay of Trojan fans, Bruin fans have been using Viewpoint to gloat over their recent victories in spring sports. According to a Viewpoint letter last week, the Bruins can recruit more athletes than USC because tuition costs less. That is a problem for USC because the NCAA limits the number of scholarships that can be given out. An athlete taking a half-scholarship at UCLA won’t consider USC because paying half of a tuition at USC will cost more.
However, the real irony lies in the fact that UCLA tuition is subsidized by taxpayers, and Trojan fans pay taxes. I can see the headline now: “Trojan Fans Finance Bruin Athletics.” Now that is one scandal the NCAA won’t touch--with a 20-foot pole.
