Southern Section Softball : Boyd Pitches No-Hitter for Woodbridge

Tiffany Boyd pitched a no-hitter and struck out 17 to lead Woodbridge High School to a 2-1 victory over St. Anthony in a Southern Section 2-A softball game Friday at Woodbridge.
Boyd (12-6) missed a perfect game when she walked a batter with two outs in the seventh inning.
Boyd (12-6) had a RBI triple in the fourth inning and a sacrifice fly in the sixth.
Anita Hauser gave up two hits for St. Anthony’s.
The Warriors (15-6) meet Mission Viejo Wednesday in a second-round game.
In another 2-A game:
Mary Star of the Sea 3, Capistrano Valley 0--Margo Melendrez (11-9) gave up six hits and struck out five for the Cougars (11-9) at San Pedro Park. Sarah Murrillo singled in the second inning for Capistrano Valley’s only hit.
In 3-A games:
Sunny Hills 4, Villa Park 0--Ruby Flores (8-2) pitched a no-hitter and struck out 16 to lead second-seeded Sunny Hills (23-5). Catherine Stedman went 2 for 3 with two home runs and three RBIs to help the Aztecs. Debbie Tateyama went 3 for 3 with a run scored and Gina LoPiccolo went 2 for 3 for Sunny Hills. Villa Park is 17-9.
Garden Grove 1, Bellflower 0--Elaine Allen’s single drove in Marian Mendoza for the only score. Mendoza, who had singled, moved to second on a wild pitch then stole third. Tammie Flores was the winning pitcher for Garden Grove (18-8).
