Michele Granger of Valencia High School struck out 14 Friday to set a Southern Section career strikeout record of 1,134 and lead the Aztecs to a 6-0 victory over La Quinta in a Southern Section 3-A softball playoff game at Valencia.
Granger, a junior, broke the record of 1,124 strikeouts set by Samantha Ford of Hart High School in 1982.
Granger (20-7) also owns the single-season strikeout record set last week in a game against Estancia.
Linda Sanchez and Julie Cunningham each drove in two runs to help the Aztecs (20-7).
