New L.A. School Superintendent

I would like to suggest that the school board may not be as insensitive as charged.
When properly enforced, the Constitution guarantees us equal opportunity, nothing more. What we need to get upset about are the instances when some of us are denied this access (to jobs, housing, education, etc.).
Appointing someone to a job because s(he) is a minority may be politic, but is as racist as appointing a person because s(he) is white.
As for the value of selecting someone from within the system, this may not have been overlooked by the board, as Del Olmo suggests. Why pick a company man when the performance of the company isn’t all that great?
