An 18-year-old Canoga Park motorcyclist died early Wednesday after suffering massive injuries when a car making a U-turn in front of him caused him to lose control of his machine, Los Angeles police said.
Kirk Nelson died at Northridge Hospital after the 2 a.m. Canoga Park accident, Los Angeles Police Officer Bill Mulvihill said.
The car’s driver, John Flavin, 35, of Canoga Park, was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving, he said.
Witnesses told police that Nelson was traveling south on Mason Avenue near Arminta Street at 70-75 m.p.h. when Flavin’s car began making a U-turn. Flavin was traveling in front of the motorcycle and in the same direction, Mulvihill said.
Nelson’s brakes locked, and his motorcycle skidded to the ground, pinning him underneath, Mulvihill said. Flavin was uninjured.
