Vermont Gov. Madeleine M. Kunin announced that she will seek a third two-year term next year instead of running for the U.S. Senate. Kunin, 53, said she felt confident she could win a Senate seat in 1988, but wanted to run for reelection to continue some of her programs and to confront issues of rapid growth and development in Vermont.
