An early-morning fire gutted a landmark Hawthorne restaurant and spread to two adjacent businesses.
A police officer responding to an unrelated call drove by the House of Raymond at 13787 S. Hawthorne Blvd. about 3:40 a.m. and noticed smoke rising from the one-story building.
About 25 firefighters from the Hawthorne and Redondo Beach fire departments were summoned. But by the time help arrived, a three-alarm fire was in progress and the building was engulfed in flames. The restaurant was destroyed, a fire department dispatcher said.
The flames damaged the walls of two adjacent businesses, Allied Trophy and Little Onion. No injuries were reported.
