A newborn baby abandoned in a Hawthorne trash dumpster early today endured the cold and drizzle before someone responded to his cries, authorities said.
A man rummaging through one of two large industrial trash dumpsters in the parking lot of a flower shop at 3659 W. 139th St. found the infant about 3 a.m.
The child, believed to be Latino, was wrapped in a blood-covered towel and was still attached to about 10 inches of umbilical cord, Officer Steve Sturgeon said. “With the amount of blood on the child and the towel, it looks like it was just delivered,” he added.
The infant was taken by ambulance to UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, where he was pronounced in good condition.
The mother’s whereabouts were not immediately known.
