TENNIS ROUNDUP : Sweden’s Larsson Gets Past Zivojinovic in 2 Tiebreakers

Magnus Larsson of Sweden, who upset top-seeded Boris Becker in the opening round, struggled past Slobodan Zivojinovic of Yugoslavia, 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (10-8), Wednesday to advance to the second round of the Australian Hardcourt Championships at Adelaide, Australia.
Larsson kept his composure, saving set points in both sets before putting away the Yugoslav in a match of power hitters.
In two upsets, Patrick Kuhnen of Germany defeated eighth-seeded Todd Woodbridge of Australia, 7-5, 6-2, and Niclas Kulti of Sweden eliminated fifth-seeded countryman Magnus Gustafsson, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.
David Wheaton and Zina Garrison won their mixed doubles match to give the United States a 2-1 victory over Switzerland and a berth in the final of the Hopman Cup team championship at Perth, Australia.
The top-seeded Americans will meet Goran Prpic and Monica Seles of fifth-seeded Yugoslavia tonight. The Yugoslavs beat Guy Forget and Catherine Tanvier of France, 2-1, in the other semifinal.
Wheaton and Garrison rallied from a break down in the first set to beat the Swiss team of Jakob Hlasek and Manuela Maleeva-Fragniere, 7-5, 6-2.
Akiko Kijimuta of Japan, who upset Pam Shriver in the first round, defeated third-seeded Barbara Paulus of Austria, 6-2, 6-3, in the second round of a $150,000 tournament at Brisbane, Australia.
