Monrovia : YMCA Gets Center Permit
The Santa Anita YMCA was granted a permit Wednesday to refurbish an abandoned city youth center in Recreation Park and use it as an after-school game room for children ages 5 and up.
Doug Sink, the new executive director of the YMCA, told the City Council that he has raised $48,000 to outfit the center with new carpeting, Ping-Pong tables, bumper pool tables, television sets and other recreational equipment.
The center, known as the Youth Hut, now sits dormant.
The YMCA hopes to eventually expand the center to include after-school tutoring and self-image enhancement programs for low-income youth, Sink said.
