Nichols Institute Buys Missouri Lab: The San Juan Capistrano-based medical laboratory chain completed the purchase of MAWD, a laboratory in Kansas City, Mo. MAWD serves physicians, hospitals and clinics in western Missouri and eastern Kansas. Nichols paid $1.7 million for MAWD and agreed to make future payments with a present value of $2 million. The company also said it will issue MAWD a new series of preferred stock that is convertible to 111,000 shares of Nichols common stock.
