BUENA PARK : $800,000 Allocated to Improve 5 Parks

More than $800,000 has been allocated to improve five city parks.
The money was given to the city by the state, some coming from voter-approved bond measures.
“We are in a good position now to do some things,” said Robert Morgan, who took over as director of parks and recreation this month. “There are improvements that need to be done.”
About $170,000 will be used to provide playground equipment at Larwin, San Marino, William Peak, John Beat and Smith-Murphy parks. Initial bids for the project were rejected after it was found that the equipment being offered did not meet quality standards desired by the Recreation Department. The project has been reopened for new bids.
The remaining money will provide equipment and other needed improvements. One of the largest allocations, $428,000, will be used to spruce up the softball fields at William Peak Park. Plans call for new concession stands to be installed.
