Award Thrown Out: The Arizona Court of Appeals in Phoenix threw out the $5.4-million judgment that grower Bruce Church Inc. won against the United Farm Workers of America over a multi-state lettuce boycott. A jury awarded the firm the money in a 1984 lawsuit claiming that the UFW violated state law and interfered improperly with business relations during a boycott of Church-grown produce between 1979 and 1987. The appeals panel said the verdict was tainted, however, because the trial judge improperly applied the state agricultural law to acts that occurred outside Arizona.
